Happy 1st Halloween!!

It’s our little pumpkin’s first Halloween and he’s 3 weeks old!  It’s hard to believe that three weeks has gone by!  Last night his weight was a whopping 2 lbs 14 oz.  He’s getting chubby on us!  He’s also grown one inch and is now 15 1/2 inches long.  Yesterday, the nurse put him on room air to see how well he’d do breathing totally on his own.  He did well for 2 hours and then needed a little bit of oxygen.  They reduced the small amount of oxygen that’s being fed into his tube from 100% to 30% oxygen.  So what he’s breathing is 70% room air and 30% pure oxygen. At least that’s what I understand.  All of this medical information has been a bit confusing and we sure are learning a lot!

I tried to find a preemie Halloween outfit for our little guy, but I couldn’t seem to find one that he wouldn’t be totally swimming in.  So, for now he’s got a Halloween mattress cover and is going to get lots of treats: hugs, kisses, and milk from his mom and hugs and kisses from his dad (dad hasn’t figured out how to produce the milk quite yet).   He’ll probably give us a treat or two in his diaper.  He loves to poop when mom is there to change him (dad hasn’t gotten a poop yet).  His latest trick is that he can pee far distances and likes to wait to pee while we’re changing his diaper.  We’ve already learned to cover him up quickly when he’s “free”.  He’s gaining a reputation with the nurses to act quick when changing Mr. Camden’s diaper!

We hope your Halloween is full of lots of treats.  We WILL be putting up new pictures today!  His bath pictures were corrupted by my camera (BUMMER) but we’ll take some pictures of his second bath.

Hugs and kisses,

A Little Hercules!

This is Camden’s 18th day in the NICU! He now is sporting some very fashionable outfits. They’re preemie size and he’s drowning in them. We laugh everytime we put his clothes on him. His little 2 lb. 11 oz. body is just not quite filling the clothes out, but we know that someday soon he’ll outgrow that size! All continues to be well with our little buddy. It amazes us how strong this little 2 pounder is. He likes to lift his head and even turns it on his own. The nurses, Ryan, and I are were shocked to see him move like that! He’s also got a grip that could hurt a guy. Ryan’s little finger is bruised from his little Hercules grip.

Last night, we were fortunate enough to get tickets to the Rockies World Series Game from Ryan’s work.  It was nice to get out for a night and have some fun! The owner of Ryan’s company brought us all in a limo to dinner at Elway’s, and if the night couldn’t be fun enough with a limo, John Elway was eating dinner at the table next to us with his family.  Of course he came over to our table to ask me for my autograph…I couldn’t say no! ;0)  The game was a lot of fun, even if the Rockies didn’t win.  We searched all over for a little outfit for Mr. Camden, but the smallest thing we could find is a toddler size 2 shirt.  I guess he’ll be 10 before he can wear that!  Hehe!

We’re off to the hospital now for our evening cuddle and story.  We’ve been giving him hugs and smooches from all our family and friends.  We hope you all are doing well.

Milk…It Does The Body Good!

Well, yesterday was another milestone for our growing little boy! His pic-line (IV) that was in his leg was removed because he’s digesting  milk so well and he is now up to full feedings of 24 mL.  He likes his mamma’s milk!  Also, the Billy light was taken off of him because his jaundice level is much lower than it’s been!  This means that we get to have more cuddle time with our little peanut - we LOVE our cuddle time!  Today, when I went to the NICU in the morning, Camden was wearing a little outfit!  It was so neat to see him wearing clothes for the first time.  He looked more like a baby to me (which I’m sure sounds strange to you).  We got so used to seeing him only in a diaper with all his “hardware” that it was fun to see him dressed like a full-term baby is dressed.  It just made me want to snuggle with him even more!

This afternoon, Mr. Camden got his first bath!  It was interesting to see how they give preemies baths.  First, the water has to be just at 100 degrees.  Then, they swaddle him up in a blanket because preemies like to feel contained.  Then we put Camden in the water with the blanket and use different parts of the blanket as a washcloth.  I thought maybe I’d get my first chance to really hear this kid’s lungs, but he didn’t cry too much during the process.  Mostly, he didn’t like it when we washed his back and he had to lean forward a bit.  He didn’t really like getting dried off either.  But overall, it went well.  After he was dried, we put lotion on him and put him into a new outfit.  Of course I picked out a little baseball outfit so he could cheer on the Rockies tonight!  He’s still drowning a bit in the preemie outfit, but he’ll grow into it soon enough!

So, once again our Camden is a champ!  I took a few photos of his bath and we’ll get those on the site soon!

Love and kisses to you all!

12 Days Old!

It’s hard to believe that our little guy is 12 days old.  He continues to do well and today his jaundice level was the lowest yet and so he was able to go off of the lights.  He’s been loving his mamma’s milk and they’ve increased the amount to 17 ccs and will continue increasing it by 1 cc every other feeding.  They’re thinking that he’ll be off of the IV in the next couple of days, which is a miracle if you ask me!  He’s just been a little wonder and the doctors are very impressed with his progress.

Yesterday was a sad day for Camden as his grandparents had to say good-bye.  We had a really nice time with them while they were here and it was neat to see them get to hold their first grandchild.  I’m sure the nurses are glad that the NICU is back to being calm and quiet now that they don’t have the Pinke clan visiting Camden several times a day.  I’m sure they were entertained by us all, and of course Del gave them a few good laughs while he was here.  Auntie Lisa was also in town this week and helped us “make friends” with the nurses by bringing them bagels and donuts when she visited the NICU.  It’s all about making friends you know!

My girlfriends threw me a wonderful baby shower yesterday and I’m here to tell ya, this kid is going to be dressed in the cutest outfits in town!  Also, we are so amazed with the cards and gifts we’ve received from everyone.  We have such generous friends and family and feel so grateful!

Have a great night!

Take care!
